Tipping a Guide???

Featured Replies

What is the proper amount to tip a bass fishing guide or any guide for that matter? Is it like a server in a restaurant at 15-20% and do you base it on his/her performance of putting you on fish, friendliness, personality, etc?

Yep.

ditto plus if the guide works for a guide service I try and find out what their cut is and then make the guide whole-it's usually about 10-15%

Thanks guys. I hope I do catch my personal best beating 6 lbs. 7 oz. I'm fishing the Kissimmee chain for 2 days during the week of March 22nd thru 26th. I'm assuming that may be a good time to be down there.

As a owner operator I do not expect a tip. If I get one ...thats just gravy. Most anglers tip 10-20%. Like one of the previous posters stated above, if the guy is working for a booking service or outfitter, definately peal off some cabbage  for him...... if you were happy with his service.

WOW, i didn't even know you were suppose to tip guides. I have never used one through an agency though.

If the guide works hard to find fish (whether or not you catch fish doesn't necessarily matter if the bite is "off" for everyone) and helps make the day enjoyable for you, then you should tip that 10-20%. However, if he's lazy or a jerk, then skip the tip (never had a bad guide personally).
