Map Making Software

Any of you guys out there know of any software that lets you take a picture from like google earth or something and create a lake map from it?  Or would something like that just be easier to do in a normal ms paint type of program?  Theres no topo maps of my lake and I'd like to start mapping it out a little more as opposed to just going by memory.

Try; Warren Parsons, LIDAR laser generated topographic maps.

Your local government geological department should have topographic maps for the lake you are interested in.

im still completely unsure how everyone is getting depth charts of lakes online.

i have yet to find a single useful map online of the two lakes that i fish here the most. and they are pretty well known lakes.  theres a bass master open on one of them this year.

lake seminole and lake talquin have had many many pro tourneys on them.. and yet i cant get a depth chart for either of them to save my life.

stores here dont even carry them if i wanted to get a paper one. the "local geological" idea was a bust. nothing.

guess imma have to just break down and get a boat... so i can get a plotter... so i can get navionics! ;D

Have checked Navionics for a premium paper map Hotmap of the lakes you fish? Some are navigation maps, not detailed enough and some are 1' & 2' elevation maps. The maps cost about $15 and you can mail order them by lake name.

Caveat:

Some Navionics High-Def hydro maps with 1-foot increments

begin at the 6-foot contour line, which are totally useless in most natural lakes!
