Fishing Before/During/After rain?

Featured Replies

I was planning on heading out to the lake tomorrow but the weather is calling for a high of 65 with a 40% chance of PM showers.

Just wondering if there is any lure reccomendations or tips for fishing in these kinds of conditions?

Thanks!

In my experience, my better days are exactly like what your going into: Expected rain which means a dropping pressure. I find the fish are more active at this time than, say, during the rain. During the rain, I find the fish are tucked in somewhere and are not very active. Once the rain passes, then the fish seem to become active again, especially during the time when the clouds are clearing up.

Again, that's what works for me more often than not. I've had days (not many) where the fish were active throughout, so who knows.

I know a lot of people in this forum swear by great results during the rain and I'm jealous, because I really like fishing in the rain, especially on a hot day.

JMHO

Good luck out there, if you do end up going fishing.  :)

Before - Good

During - Good

After - Not so Good

Before and during rain I've had some of my best days fishing.  I know that they say the day after a front is tough, but again, I've had very good days on the FIRST day after.  The second day has been far tougher for me.

Crappy, windy, rainy,=Jitterbugs for me.

Just went out now for about an hour with about same conditions as you, but air temps a little colder (50ish).

Got a 3lb in very light drizzle and a dink in a little heavier rain, both on spro frog/popper (not black, but darkish colored).  Worked the edges around 3 sets of lily pads.

I will go out again after the rain to see how it goes, but in my limited experience, it hasnt been good after.  Especially if a thunderstorm.

good luck.   :)

For me, at this time of the year I will plan to be on the water after a good rain or storm front.  It seams to kick off the fall bite here in OK.

Down here:

Before:  Good

During: Good

After: Good

Rain oxygenates the upper layer of water and fish just love it.  Bait moves up, fish chase bait, fish chase lures.  You can usually get a fantastic topwater bite whenever theres rain on the horizon.
