fishing in the rain

Featured Replies

I got out of class early today, so I got some time to kill. Thought I'd try my luck fishing in the rain. What is a bait for a rainy day?

Wake baits!

And black/blue soft plastics are great as well! I actually feel like I catch more in the rain.

The same baits you use when it 's not raining.

Same stuff you use when it's not raining. A downpour usually sucks for fishing though, but I LIGHT rain can be very productive.

Same baits, if it's not pouring down, then they are usually more active and aggresive. :)

A loud noise topwater bait is great to in a light rain.

X2Bass don't mind getting wet :)

I've done well using a spinnerbait in the rain, if they wont chase or react to a spinnerbait I'll usually throw a Black/Blue jig.

i had awesome luck with buzzbaits. spinnerbaits high in water cause a small wake with Oklahoma blades. and i got lots of rainy day fish with a floating worm.

I've had some of my funnest days fishing in the rain. As a general rule the bass tend to be more active during the rain so I can throw reaction baits, blades, jerkbaits, surface, etc. instead of having to shake a worm or crawl a jig to get them to bite.

Now if its a cold winter rain, well thats a different story all together.

I personally love fishing in the rain (minus lightning of course).  I typically throw the same baits as usual, but do seem to get better responses with topwater.  If you dont mind getting wet then go for it, the fish are always wet...they dont care!!!

Only for the fisherman.
