Christmas list-words of advice

Featured Replies

Yo! For all you fishermen (and women) out there! Unless you are brand new to the sport and have no equipment whatsoever, here is the best advice I can give you about your Christmas wish list. It will serve you well this year and many years to come:

Unless you are extremely specific and stress you want no substitutes, do not ask for fishing gear from friends and relatives. Otherwise, you will wind up with three nylon stringers, 2 dozen red and white bobbers, a gob of non-descript night crawler hooks, and one or two zebco 202's. If you do receive any lures, they will very likely be those cheap stamped spoons and knock off spinners mass produced in the billions in China.

You'll thank me later.

Good advice. Just ask for gift certificates, like I do. BPS, LPO, *** all great places to shop.

Straight Cash Homey.

Its hard to not mess that up. I have a Grandma that likes to order knock-offs from catalogs. Those Banjo minnows really do suck  ;)

But the reason I prefer cash for fishing gear is, If i asked for only BPS gift cards, i'd get 50 in BPS, 25 in gander MT, 25 for DICKS, 15 for Sports Authority, and 25 for Wally World.

Thats 140 for 5 different stores, and if your saving for a nice pole or something, BPS doesn't take Gander MT and Wally world cards. But BPS does take cash  :)

Just my experiences and thoughts.

Exactly as you say. I have a box full of stuff given as gifts by well meaning friends than will never see the water from my boat.

I compile a list for wife to go to either BPS or Green Top.

This year I do not need any fishing gear as I will settle for my two new Abu Revo Premier 30 spinning reels and Verdict rods.

Really wanted the big green largemouth bass mailbox but wife shot down that idea. That would have really gotten the neighbors in a huff.

Would love to have the new Lowrance Elite 5-DSI Chartplotter and Fishfinder but not for this Christmas. Maybe later in 2011.

Everyone get your lists ready for the sales start Thursday!!!  :D   :D   :D
