glueing ripped swimbaits

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been experimenting with Hollow Bellies and Money Minnows recently and I've found that they get all tore up after a few fish. Can I just use regular super glue to mend them back together or will it hurt their action? I realize there are special glues on the market but just wondering if they are really worth it. Thanks!

the Mend-it glue works great.  problem i had was that it dried out pretty quickly.  I think the acetone in it evaporated.  i kept meaning to try to reconstitute it but never got around to it.  Otherwise the stuff is great

you can melt them back together. there are some special tools for it that make it real easy on the fly or you can do what i used to keep all the beat up ones and at the end of the day heat up a paper clip and slide it through the tears. I don't know about regular super glue might harden to much or not dry quick enough

You have to use mend- it.It isn't a glue. It melts the plastic from the inside out and reforms it.You can save an incredible amount of money on baits by using it so don't let the price per bottle fool you.

I don't know about it drying out(evaporating). That's what they make caps for.To use them. I have had my bottle for 2 months now and have never seen the level of the liquid drop from drying up and have repaired several dozens of baits plus made a lot of my own creation baits.I pretty much use it every day and it will probably last me well over a year.

Super glue and such is not recommended.Been there done that. It will leave hard spots on the bait and for 1:will kill some of the action, and for 2:will make it hard to insert your hook correctly through those areas. Not to mention it is just a messy pain in the @ss.

The original Mend-it dried out because of the bottle they used. They have changed the bottle and there shouldn't be a problem with it now.

Super glue does work but don't touch anything till dry.
