what are some opinions on this?

if the fish are active why not?  I would atleast try it.  Maybe even throw a chugbug if its a bit slower.

    I caught many fish last Saturday throwing a black Lunker Lure buzzbait with the biggest being about 3 pounds.

I always have a buzzbait on during spawn & postspawn. Some days are better than other but make no mistake about it, the buzzbait will work during this period.
