Just wanted to share a fun experience today. Caught a pretty nice small mouth in SE Ohio.  First cast nothing...  Second cast, catch a little smouth... Third cast BAM!  I was using a Shad colored Super Fluke, weightless texas rig.  The fluke's action in the river current really set em off I guess

Do you release or eat your catch?

I am not hijacking this thread by anymeans. I am gonna change my avatar for you road warrior. The one I put up will be the largest of a 29.71 pound limit. It's from last year and is a 6.4. I am going to Erie next week to catch a few for the fish across america.

and mw I'm not sure if you were directing that question at me or not but I do not eat what I catch unless I'm camping somewhere far from any town and I'm hungry  

the good thing about the gloves is that your boss cant see the teeth scars on your thumbs from all the fish you caught when you called in sick and went fishing!

I hear ya. Smallies can be pain to lip with all the thrashing around they do. Smallies just dont quit!

Not really. You got a thrashing smallie with a slippery lip, add a treble hook or two and suddenly a glove doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

I'll tell you a few years back I caught a pretty good size walleye on a rattletrap. Had him by the gill plate and was workin the hook out when he started thrashing and..well long story short, I wish I had a glove on!

The gloves thing is just personal preference imo.  Some people wont ever hardly use em and some people use em whenever available.  After a couple catfish stings and sharing treble hooks with bass I now prefer gloves  ;D

The river in the background does have VERY steep banks. The banks constantly wash out from year to year.  It gives the bass tons of cover in the trees that fall into the river but it doesnt give fishermen very many spots to fish from

Do you wade at all? Even just getting in knee deep can get you away from the bank and out of the way of the branches, etc. Opens up bunch of options on a small, tight stream like that.

wading is definitely something that would work well in this particular spot.  The current isnt too strong and there are lots of small rocks to stand on.  That day however I just found the place so I didnt really think about walking into it.  In the future (when it gets abit warmer) wading would probably be a good way to go.
