New to SM

Featured Replies

Hey everyone bear with me on a newby question please,

I have been fishing for LMB for a lil while and am still lerning new tricks, however with all the craze of Small Mouth im wondering what it would be like to catch a few (I hear they may be good in Kentucky)

Could you all maybe give me some pointers on what I should use / Do to catch a smallie. Im assuming its similar to LMB. are there lures you use specifically for SM? are the ways of fishing different? I wouldnt think so but figured you vets could help a n00b out.

Thanks and See ya in Kentucky!

I think you may catch a few smallmouth while fishing for largemouth

at Kentucky Lake. Perhaps the locals will have specific suggestions,

but for the most part, brown fish will strike the same lures you throw

for green fish.

So for those who say they fish for smallmouth .... what is differant? I mean SM and LM are the same lures etc?

i don't have much experience with LM or lake fishing for SM but in the river anything that looks like a crawdad is good or something that looks like a minnow, fluke, jerk baits. in the river they don't have time to look at it long, its get it or its gone by so they are aggresive. last fall i started using senkos and they worked good for river SM. when i fished lake erie last spring blade baits worked good. I'm thinking about KY lake and what to use but i would like to catch some LM haven't caught very many of them.

largemouth will usually be "on the bank"

smallmouth will usually be "off the bank".

look for structure or breaklines away from the bank,

the presence of bait makes it that much sweeter.   8-)
