Iv'e fished for largemouth all of my life so im new to smallmouth fishing. Does anybody have any tips for river smallmouth, mainly in Tennessee.

Get yourself a medium action 6 1/2' - 7' quality spinning rod. Match that with appropriately sized quality spinning reel, filled with 6# test quality mono.

Get a bunch of 1/8 oz. jig heads, molded on a size #4 hooks, along with a variety (colors) of 3" & 4" curly tailed grubs. Rig the grubs on the jig heads with the tail following the hook bend. Cast quartering up stream, while keeping a fairly snug line and allow your offering to drift back to about 90 degrees. Then start a slow retrieve back.

Find any/all current breaks and present your offering as I've outlined here and you'll find smallmouths. Good luck!

Are you going to be fishing free flowing rivers or reservoir/rivers like the Tennessee or lower Holston?

Mainly the Big South Fork River which is part of the cumberland river. Its a free flowing river.

Zoom trck worms and/or senko-style baits, fish weightless and twitched through current have always been my goto on the smaller rivers. As someone said, the Ober and Obed near there have some fantastic smallmouth as well, and a few muskies to keep it interesting.

I'm planning a trip to the USA next year - where is my best chance of catching a smallmouth?

both numbers and size. You will need a guide and the

time of year is very important.
