Use a watermelon or green pumpkin color in clear water. I haven't used the original yet, but these colors are what I use in the Yum imitation.

watermelon red

I really like Penetration and Spring break. For clear water I would suggest Infection or Main Vein.

Delicious

Dirty Sanchez

Sprayed Grass is my all time favorite for clear water.......and vegetation.

Penetration is my favorite for muddy water.

There is no secret color........but i have the most confidence in sprayed grass.

I like infection! But all dark colors seem to work. I sometimes rig the beaver this way:

Would you fish the beaver rigged that way similar to a fluke?

I fish it like a jig. But only on muddy bottom with few snags otherwise you get snagged too often.

Other, it definitately works but like i said on fairly flat bottom other you'll get to many snags.

Here's one i caught, you can barely see the lure but that's what i caught em with:

Here is South Lousiana, Coonasty has been hands down the best color I've used. I also use Green Pumkin/Red Glitter, and Bloody Bug at times, but neither come close to Coonasty.
