  1. Taking a trip to Ti June 2-4th. What are chances grass is up in those shallow water areas? Same with pads? Thanks
  2. Going to start with megabass jerkbait.
  3. Can you describe the idler a little more. Not exactly sure what part that is.
  4. I clean my reels every year. This year I ripped apart my shimano scorpion 1001 and cleaned everything as usual. Everything went together fine. I was playing with the reel on a rod yesterday and noticed when I hit the thumbar, the lure descends to the ground slowly, almost like the cast control knob is tightened. I played wot the cast control knob and no matter how much i loosen it, the lure drops slowly. Not sure what is rubbing. I can hear a noise too when I reel in, almost like when you sand something. I cleaned the reel again and checked the bearings and they are smooth and turn freely. After the cleaning, the same problem persists. Not sure if something is rubbing. Not sure what it could be.
  5. How heavy is heavy for a rod? I some rods are super light, but how heavy is too heavy? I just bought a Poweel endurance rod mag heavy that is 7'1. It is 5.5 oz. thhat doesn't seem heavy, but pitching it all day seems like it might be a chore. My carrot stick is right around 4 oz. and imx is 5. My daiwa light and tough is 5.5, but it is 7'6. Not sure if 5.5 for that kind of rod is average, heavy, light, etc.
  6. Anyone know the bassmaster tv schedule? It used to be every Saturday at 10 ESPN the week after an event. Now its two weeks later and i can't find the schedule or what is on when.
  7. I have a small room in my basement that is solely dedicated to fishing tackle- and I need a whole room. My wife would kill me if she ever went down there. To hide all this, I always make sure the first few feet of the basement are a little messy. Now, she never goes in the basement. How do all of you keep the gear hidden?
  8. Funniest thing i read all day because my wife says the same thing.
  9. Don't just let the lure hit the bottom and then lift it out. Sometimes fish will be looking up so yo-yo the bait a little below the surface before you pull it out of the mat.
  10. What/where screw is that? Not familiar with taking that reel apart, but they're all pretty similar and i do all my own.
  11. Mike's Reel Repair has everything you will need. http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/
  12. cwen replied to boogie's topic in Fishing Tackle
    Ditto.
  13. I usually keep them on a season or so. Gammy hooks are awsome ad rarely rust. Eventually, all the hooks get changed fro Gammy hooks. I will change the front hook on trap baits and put a larger one on as well. If you but from somplace like lurecraft, you can get better deals on hooks like pack of 25 for $14 versus pack of 6 for $5 at tackle shops. The only lures that don't get changed are lucky craft. They already come with quality hooks. Gammy's hold their sharpness as well so in the off-season, you don't have to do as much sharpening or replacing.
  14. A thin layer of grease on the roller bearing. Oil the bearings in the cast control and the in the brake assembly.
  15. Not sure if you could see the gears being worn or not. I just know that when my reel makes a grinding noise or feel, more often then not it is the gears. That is of course if you have assembled the reel back together correctly.
  16. I use a leader that goes up the the legnth of the reel. I only use leaders on my pitching set-ups and all my rods are 7ft or more. i don't want that know going through the guides so no more than 6ft.
  17. Could be worn gears. If the gears are worn even slightly they can and will grind.
  18. I never saw any with their backs out but pretty close. I know i caught in 6 inches of water for sure.
  19. Just got n éw Powell endurance rod. It says 1/8 to 1/2 on the website but only up to 3/8 on the rod itself. Not sure if I want to return it now. I use 1/4 all the time unless it gets windy and sometimes go up to 3/8. what do all you prefer in a drop shot rod? M or ML rods?
  20. This is not a private lake either where a buddy can get you a day pass.
  21. This reservoir is owned by the city
  22. Frogs go in just the frog box. 90% of the frogs in there are spro frogs.
  23. I live in Northern NJ where our biggest lake is 2600 sq. acres. The second biggest body of freshwater we have is a reservoir that is off limits to the public. Yiu used to be able to go fish there if you knew a guy who new a guy kind of thing. I have been there twice legally and it is an amazing fishery. But even then, it was still closed to the public. Now it is closed because of our post 9/11 society. It is silly becasue one of the most fished reservoirs in N NJ is right above the closed reservoir and if one wanted to poison the drinking water, all you had to do was start poring in the public reservoir right into the falls that go down into the private reservoir. I'll cut to the chase. How does one go about enacting legislation to openeing this place up for fishing? I figure you could make the argument for 9.9 HP engines only because it would keep out the jet skiers and pleasure boaters. I really want to spearhead this thing. It is not like its a small reservoir in SC. In NJ everything is small and everything is private or just closed in general. How should I get started?
  24. I am not hoping for much from the BPS frog, but don't mind spending $5 every year on a frog or two. I generally use the spro frogs in three colors, plus I like the regular popper frogs they have too. Every year the skirts go to crap. I am spending at least $30-40 annually on frogs.
  25. I was going to buy that new koppers frog becasue it looks great. However, before I pulled the plug, I remember that every expensive frog I have purchased (Snag Proof, Spro, Tru Tunsgten) have their tails get all sticky and messed up by the end of the year. So when I placed my order with BPS, bought the cheap kermit frog for $5
