Loomis or powell?
How much better is a loomis imx vs a powell max. I have a looms imx 844 and I want a powell 733 7'3 MH max rod. Money is a little tight and I don't use my loomis all that much. So, is loomis that much better than a powell?

Quit Chewing tobacco= bait monkey on my back
Even though my wife is happy I quit, she says it was probably cheaper if I still chewed. I recently quit using skoal mint (which I still miss) over a month ago. Since then, I have rewarded myself with a number of new lures, etc. So, whatever money i would have spent on chew for the entire year of 2010, is now gone. For example, $289 at BPS in MD, another $400 at tackle warehouse this past week. Another $100 at cabelas last weekend, and $60 at dirtyjigs.com. Looks like I have a new addiction.

Quit the chew: cost me a fortune
After close to 15 years of chewing tobacco, I stoped over a month ago. Today was a huge test as a buddy and I went to Cabelas on a few hour journey and I loved to do it on trips. I passed the test. However, since I knew I would be saving over $1000 this year from stopping, I have been spending money like water. Lots of new lures, swimbait rod, swimbaits that cost a few $$. Althpough I am happy that I quit, I feel I would have been better off financially had I kept doing it.

Bass fishing on Nintendo wii: Helps cure cabin fever
Anyone play Hooked Again on Nintendo wii? Trying to get something going because it is winter here in NJ and my wife bought me a wii and fishing game for Christmas. She got it because you can play online against others.

Need a santee cooper guide
Buddy and I are going to SC in April and we want to guide a guide for a day. I have a few places I know but need recommendations for a guide. I am hoping try and find a younger guide-one less likely to want to use live bait or rubber worms on the bottom. I am really hoping to cover some water down there.

Problem with tilt
It is not a power tilt/trim

Problem with tilt
I have an older 1990 40 HP evinrude. It does not have auto tilt/trim. I have a lock on the engine to keep it up or down. Lately, it has been a pain to lift up and slow to go down when I release the lock. I put grease on all the fittings there are however, no luck. i wonder if it has anything to do with this cylinder shaped thing with a wire coming out.

hand pain when casting
I agree. Some guys love the power hump like me, but others have discomfort when using it. Mat also be a problem with your hand.

Drop Shot Knot
Thread the hook with tthe point facing up, tie a polomar knot and leave a lot of excess in the tag end, then take the tag end, slip it back through the eye so it will keep the hook facing up and you are good to go.

New scorpion xt 1501 Review
I understand that Dan, but i use braid with all my pitching set-ups with a fluro leader that is between 4-6 feet. I don't like to cast jigs/plastics because the know frays when it hits the guides. To each his own. I am just stating that for the applications i use in the way i use them, the reel is the best I have used. I have had reels that cost $50-$300 and this ne is by far the best. I understand that people can pay too much. I once bought an older curado and a chonarch when I started fishing about 6 years ago and i knew nothing about reels. The older green curado casted equally as far as the chronarch so I retunred the chronarch and stuck with the curado. I am very specific about what I use so I want the best that I can afford. As far as my scorpion goes, I fish waters that have a lot of docks and I don't use spinning reels so I need the best reel I can for skipping docks with a baitcaster and the new scorpion will do the job.

The new scorpion doesn't cost over $300. Plus if you have ever fished waters where you have 40 + feet of visibility you need to get as far back from the target as possible.

Didn't pay a cent, like the purple, and I use it for pitching which out did the curado by way more than 10 feet. Can pitch 50 feet with the lure inches off the ground. The curado, not nearly as well. I am not saying I don't like the curado, I own 20 of them, 4 new ones, but I use the scorpion for pitching and they are much better. The spool spins much faster on the initial 40 feet or so which is why they are better for that application.

Reels got wet
Leth them dry. My reels have sat out in the pooring rain in the boat foe hours and didn't have any problems. All the important parts that deal with casting/retrieving are all sealed inside.

New scorpion xt 1501 Review
Casts much better than the curado. I put the curado and scorpion on the two identicle rods with identicle lures and set the brakes up identically. Sorry to those who like the green one, but get more than 10 feet difference in casting. As far as pitching goes, it is much smoother because I did the same thing for pitching with the same line as well.

Taking apart Revo SX?
Did you drop it ot take it apart previously? Because if anything becomes loose inside then that will cause problems. There is a medal sleeve that sits inside most reel on the gear shaft that has two rectangular prongs that slip into the gears. If that comes out or was not put in properly, it will throw stuff out of whack. The nice thing about reels is they rarely break becasue everypart is replacable. There also might be screws inside the reel behind the spool that need to be taken out. Some reels have side plat screws there.

New scorpion xt 1501 Review
Wow! Comes with a price tag, but the smoohest reel have ever used for pitching. It is the new curado on steroids. I was about to get a zillion, tried one, didn't think it performed that great for the $ and someone emailed me a link. I didn't even know shimano had a new scorpion out. iown three of the older ones and love them. Glad i didn't pull the handle on the zillion. Pitches lures effortlessly.

Carolina Rigging
Great technique. The thing I love best about it is that it really lets you know what the bottom composition is. If you use tungsten weights, you can get a feel for what you are fishing and can cover water fairly quickly or as slow as you want. I also lie to tie the leader first because you can then use a polomar knot for both the leader and the main line.

WHAT LINES: TYPE VS TECHNIQUE
pitching/flipping: Braid or braid with fluoro leader d-shot: fluoro shakey head: fluoro swimbiats: fluoro topwater: mon (doesn't sink) cranks: fluor spinnerbaits/buzzbaits/rattletraps: fluor or fluor coated like yo-zuri hybrid Frog: BRAID c-rig: Braid main line and mono leader (floats and keeps the bait over grass and rocks)

Most money lost during a single trip....
I alomst had a horrific loss. I a box of jerkbiats on top of my engine because my wife was talking to me. I left the house and got on the highway when it hit me because I saw the box still on the engine while driving 50 MPH plus. The box had easily 25-30 jerkbaits in it, and I only own lucky craft jerkbaits.

Anyone have BPS Pro Qualifier raingear?: Is it warms?
Just got a pair of bibs and a parka from the spring classic. saved over $100. Is the outfit warm? Do you wear it in early spring even when it's not raining? Does it hold well. I have heard some great things, but figured I'd buy while I could and ask questions later.
