  1. The worst part is that it is almost over. Usually i can get on the water the end of March with little worry. However, if these temps keep up I am never getting there. I don't even like fishing until the water hits around 50, but this year I don't eeven care. The worst part is as omeone else stated. i have done EVERYTHING. Boxes are clean, hooks sharpened/replaced, backing put on reels, reel cleaned, fishing shows watched. The last home stetch is the worst. I am meticulous about my tackle as well so I do a lot to get ready.
  2. Use a reel you are comfortable with. I skip using a curado. I know how that reel will cast with any brake and cast control setting possible. I do pretty well with it. There is also a video on flw outdoors where Dave Lefebre instructs how to do it. Man he slings those lures.
  3. Daiwa L and T 7'6 for $40 and a 2 year old MK 72 lbs. TM for free.

The guy is a little flashy for me, but I like that he won it. I like seeing the consistant guys get it. It would have been a nice cindarella story if Fralic one it, but I hate cindarella stoies. To me it says anyone can do it. I know he was in the 51 who made it there, but I like a big name winner. To me that shows fishing is less about luck and more about ability.
  5. Every year it sees the classic is saying they'll have more coverage and then don't. I can't get the live weigh-n because I don't have verizon. That I understand. But this morning, there was no river cam showing the launch, and no camera that they advertised that would follow Boyd Duckett all day. All that is showing is sportccenter highlights. I belive it is called basscast.
  6. ball bearing
  7. parabolic I belive is a graphite/fiberglass composite. I own one but would never use it for cranks. You don't need a hypersensitive rod for cranks. That is why a lot of guys go with glass rods. The glass rods are less sensetive to you can't react too quickly. However, you can't always feel the lure getting hung in grass. A really sensitive rod will let you feel the bite quickly. As a result, many fishermen have a tendency to rip the crank from the fish's mouth too quickly. I have a loomis crank rod and what makes this as well as the crucial cranking rods is the graphite is more dense at the tip, this way the blank is sensetive enough for you too feel the lure hitting stuff like grass, but dense at the tip which helps you not tear the lure free.
  8. I too bought that video. Very informative. Definitely saves me money. I like to keep a clean workspace too. Best thing i did was buy a small hobby screwdrive from home depot. it was a Kobalt. it cost $5 and it had 4 bits with a flathead and phillips on either side. The bits vary in size and cover all the bit sizes and styles needed for taking reels apart.
  9. I know st. croix makes a quality rod. That being said, when the BPS extremes go on sale they are hard to beat. I own like 9 of them. Great warrenty, hold up well, and are pretty sensative.
  10. I owned the older one. It just stopped casting. I ripped it down, nothing was wrong internally, cleaned it, cleaned it again, just lousy bearings and on a reel that was only a few years old, bearings shouldn't go like that. I am meticulous about my reel maintenance as well. And i should clarify, it is the only baitcaster I had that went wrong. the only other reel I had that broke was a quantum catalyst.
  11. Just curious what size rod you use for skipping docks. I have become pretty god at skipping docks with a a baitcaster, but i know I would be much improved if I started skipping with spinning gear, even though I hate spinning gear. I just got a good deal on a fenwick 6'0 M action rod. Goes from 1/8-1/2. It seems pretty thin though. The rod goes for close to $100 but goy it brand new for $40. What does evryone else use and do you you think this rod is sufficient. I know a lot of guys like smaller rods for skipping docks.
  12. DO NOT BUY! The only reel I ever owned that completely broke down.
  13. I use braid for the main line and mono for a leader. The reason i like mono is that it floats better and helps the lure stay over the grass sometimes. This way, you are not rupping your lure out of the grass every cast and stirring thimgs up too badle or ripping your lure.
  14. New rod racks. Wife made me use new racks because the older ones i had were in the way. I never counted how many rods/reels i had because I hate math. Well, when they are all lined up in a row, I think I have a few too many. I still have a few rods and reels that aren't up there though. I ran out of space on the walls and racks. I need to get rid of some of this stuff. P.S. That beautiful bright green is the color of the house before I bought it. I just haven't finished that room yet.
  15. Mike, Why are you doing City Limits? Runamede, Nj is as rural as rural gets in NJ.
  16. A little too bulky for my taste however, I put megastrike on everything i own. Not to offend, I never liked the jigs or jig heads much, but that is personal preference, but man dd you get the scent right.
  17. At age 32, not sure where this puts me, pamper or diapers, but from playing college basketball to now I hae toen the ligaments in both ankles a total of 7 times. Left ankle has non-stop pain due to a cyst and i also have tumor in that foot. Mid-way through the season my right shoulder hurts like hell but that is a fishing related problem.
  18. Don't know what your set-up is, but it could be you are trying to cast too light of a lure on too heavy a rod.
  19. I always find that if i set my monkey's limit at about $700 for the year, that he is satified with that.
  20. I fish a small lake with 10-13 feet of visibility and although it wasn't the best camera, about $200, it didn't work very well and you have to be stopped to realy use it. Get a depth finder.
  21. I like the pegboard in the closet.
  22. I too like a MH because it is more versitaile.
  23. Thanks for the compliments. I have 2 more walls with pegboard and lures. I have been away for a while. I hit the bass boards when the ice comes to town- which it has done a lot this year.
  24. I got this from the thread "Does anyone have a closet for their fishing gear." I though its winter for me so why not. I have a room off of my basement devoted to my passion.
  25. Yeah Dean, that's me. Is your username the same at BPS?
