Drop shot rod: how heavy?

Featured Replies

Just got n éw Powell endurance rod. It says 1/8 to 1/2 on the website but only up to 3/8 on the rod itself. Not sure if I want to return it now. I use 1/4 all the time unless it gets windy and sometimes go up to 3/8. what do all you prefer in a drop shot rod? M or ML rods?

It's rare that I drop shot, but I use a ML when I do.

Just personal preference. I like the lighter rod for lighter line.

For vertical, deep water presentation, I use an Avid AVC63MLXF.  ML is plenty for this.  Start getting into weeds, or casting to cover, I'll move to a M.  I'll even bubba shot in pads with a flipping stick.

In other words, match power to cover.

I dropshot from UL all the way up to H Cwen ;).

Can 't go foolin ' around with sissy rods where you can hook a big momma in the middle of the brush, so a man gotta do what he gotta do, for me d-shot is a rig and with what I fish it depends a lot on cover type and density.

My normal dropshot rod is a custom SJ781 IMX...however...like Raul...I dropshot from UL to H...

I dropshot using a medium power rod, but as the others said, it's all preference. I use a Kistler 6'-6" medium power rod because I like the sensitivity.
