I use Texposer hooks by Lunker City.  I have also tried 5/0 Owner wide gap straight shanks with some success also, but the worm tends to slide down the hook, so I stick with the Texposer.  

Do any of you use the ewg hook with success when wacky rigging?

You are using the right hook. I use a 1/0 for the 4" and a 2/0 or 3/0 for the 5".

Do you have alot of success using a 5'' senko wacky? I always texas rig em, if so what hook... i notice one guy guy commented on the octopus... whatcha think?

Jeff, I noticed recently that the Gammy Weedless Finesse Wide Gap hook is now available in 3/0 and 4/0. I got some 4/0 to try with Senkos. The space between the hook point and hook eye is large enough to maybe get better hookups than the previous max size of 2/0.

The HP hooks will work better if you open the bend a little so the hook point is not pointed at the hook eye and the same for any other hook models using the Kahle design.

I like the 4/0 Gammy EWG hooks myself.

That is exactly what I was hoping for.  Didn't know the Gammy Finesse was out in bigger sizes now, I'll get me some.  Perfect!!

I didn't have any problems hooking (and holding) fish on the HP hook last year.  I just wish they would make them in a smaller wire for tubes.  I think the hook is a little beefy for lighter line presentations. oh...and Eagle Claw should make ALL their hooks sharper....geez.

I use Gammy 3/0 EWG for Trigs and circle hooks for whacky. I catch ore on Trig but then I fish it a lot more . Going to increase whacky this year.

When u say finesse worms... can u specify what u were using? Any 5" senkos?

i fish mainley 5 inch senko's and depends on what fall rate i want the worm to drop is what size hook i use but it's mostly 3/0 and 4/0 ewg gamo hooks 99% of the time thats when im rigin it texas are c rigged if i wacky rig it i use circle hooks

Exactly the same thing I do except for the addition of 2/0 hooks as well.  Sometimes I just like using the smaller hooks when I'm changing baits often.

BriBass, I was using a Zoom Finesse worm. I usually use a 2/0 Octopus hook with them but used the Weedless Finesse Wide Gap hook just to check the hook performance. A wacky rigged finesse worm will out produce the fat worms (Senkos and their knock-offs) by a wide margin. My intent was to catch fish and hook test at the same time. My only reservation with the Weedless Finesse Wide Gap hook is getting the worm back on the hook after it slides up the line when fighting the fish-that procedure does a lot of damage to the small diameter worm. I caught several bass with the Octopus hook rigged weedless wacky also plus a few more with a Chatterbait.

BriBass, yep I do wait for it to slowly sink. That is why it works so well. Is there a reason you think that it needs to get to the bottom in a hurry?

No, there really is no reason for a hurry so i guess ur right it takes alot of patience per cast, do you shake it on the way down? or just let it fall?

I'm looking for opinions on a keel weighted hook with a screw lock to fish senkos on casting gear.

 

I'm confident in Gamakatsu, VMC, Mustad, Owner and Trokar.  The priority for this hook is that a 5-6" senko falls horizontally.

 

Thoughts?

I'm cheap and I fish texas rig senkos on baitcasting gear a bunch. This trick has saved me a ton of money (both in hooks and how senkos last better on screw locks).

 

I buy vertical line tie  ewg 30 degree jig mold hook like a gammy 30 and add a hitchhiker screw (much much much cheaper than the regular screw lock options). If I keel weight, I'll add fly tying lead or suspend strips: modify the location of the lead keel to get the fall you want.

4/0 Gammy EWG, sometimes I even use the red version.

6" a 5/0 superline EWG, 5" 4/0 EWG standard or superline.

Instead of buying a weighted hook, you could use a hook weight.
