Private Lake Full Of Weeds And Moss

Featured Replies

How would you bass fish a private pond of about 10 acres that is full of weeds and moss?

Hollow body frog on top or punch through the top of the vegetation with a heavy tungsten weight and braid. Can be some mighty big ones waiting for you down there.

Yep, not sure what the weather is like where you are but when it starts to warm up in a lake like that all I hear in my mind is "ribbit, ribbit." :D

i am having the same problem in a canal that i fish at. what color you think would be best?

What's the water clarity like? I fish in a canal every day that is covered in moss/weeds. I've had the best luck with natural colored baits for clear water (white, green pumpkin, red flash, etc). When the water turns a little dirty or muddy after a rain, I go with black/blue or a brown/chartreuse colored lure. Try pitching buzzbaits, jigs, or spinnerbaits, they are weedless for the most part.

i'd be tossin flukes across the grass depending on how thick/deep the top of it is.

Frog, Buzzbait if the water's warm enough like where I'm at I've been fishin topwater since March and caught a lot like that and if it's too cold try waking a spinnerbait or jig or texas rig a craw and wake it along the edges and stop every now and then and let it fall

I've always had good luck with black topwater lures, including frogs and toads. For these types of topwater slop lures, I think you can get away with just owning black, white, and some type of natural frog color.

I would be throwing a frog or black buzz bait till my arms fell off.

i am going to try this next time. i am going to throw some frogs and see what happens

The pond behind my house is just like you have explained, and I find throwing light texas rigged baits work every well also, just enough weight to get it through the grass... Also like other have said topwater (fog, buzzbait) works very well.

My best color overall has been Blue Glimmer. Got my biggest fish right at dusk on a Black Neon. Smokey Shad and Green Pumpkin Chartreuse have produced well also.
