Featured Replies

there a lake in west virginia. clear water. very deep. lots of huge rocks & ledges. really nice smallie population.

any ideas on what to throw at them???

You could try throwing those huge rocks at them.

What are they eating? Crawfish? Shad? Shiners? Something else? I'd start there with their main forage. Worse oomes to worse throw a natural looking jig.

i know theres some perch in the lake as well as bluegil/sunfish

theres also some crayfish

They're probably more apt to eat the perch and crawfish rather than the bluegills. I'd try a perch crankbait or jerkbait, PB&J or camo football jigs, and maybe watermelon red flake tubes to start. My personal favorite smallie crankbait is a Berkley Frenzy (which they don't make anymore). Try a Rapala Countdown or Huskyjerk in perch or silver or gold with a black back

Being I was only on one smallie lake over 20 years ago, take it for what it's worth. We crushed them for three days on 1/8 jigheads rigged with grubs and other smaller plastics. I remember it like it was yesterday watching them come up out of the rocks like torpedoes and nailing just about everything we threw at them.

throw anything you would throw on other bodies of water....lures arent lake specific...

I'm thinkin'....clear water-light line....fish are deep-lead head jig....smallmouth bass-3"-5" plastic....got it?

Perch colored glass shad rap for now then shaky head worm green pumpkin bandit 200 series craw orange or craw chart. colored. That should put some in the boat!
