Hey guys,

I have always been afraid to pitch jigs into hydrilla, milfoil, or lily pads because the few times I tried, I would always get caught up in weeds. What's the best jig that I would be able to pitch into weeds, then hop it on the bottom with little to no problem?

Also, I know that jig head weight and trailer affect rate of fall, but what jig weight do you guys use generally when pitching into weeds?

I like a punch rig or a Hack Attack jig.

Just got the 1oz hack attack jig and it looks promising. Cant wait to use it on Guntersville this summer. A punch rig is a great idea too...i use a paycheck skirt with a 3/4 oz weight and a craw or beaver type bait. Anyone have any luck on the hack attack jig?

Yep, they don't do too well in slop, but work great in grass.

That said, my favorite grass jig is still probably the Jungle JIg from Northland. I wish they still made it in 1.25 ounce.

Base the weight of the jig on the cover you're fishing and the activity level of the fish. Thicker cover means heavier jigs.

Take a look at the Nothstar jigs.And also there punching skirts.

This depends on how thick of weeds. The thicker the weeds the heavier the weight. A bullet or cone shape is best for the style of jig.
