ZEN, That's the kill spot. It's suppose to give the bass a target on the bait to hit. I'm not sure if it increases the number of bites but I don't think it hurts.

Big M paints it down there so that the teeth don't mess up the paint job.

Ben, those baits are 2" to 2 3/8" long with most weighing 3/8oz.
