i was thinking of tourney fishing and was wondering which way to go try out the small club scene or jump in and go co-angler in something like the bfl what are the pros and cons of each i consider myself a pretty accomplished angler andam able to get on the fish pretty quickly whenever i do get a chance to fish some opinions would be appreciated

I fished for a number of years in team and draw tournaments and there are good and bad points to each. I'm not sure of this new fangled co-angler thing, but it seems that any skill of find fish doesn't come into play in that format.

I'd suggest trying out both to see which you are more comfortable with. If you are used to having boat control when you fish now, it might make for a long day of getting short boated in a BFL tournament.

I've been fishing "buddy" tournaments with my son for 6 years. Currently we fish Anglers Choice. I have no experience with boater/non boater. For me I'd rather work with my partner than compete against him for fish.

Club tournaments are the way to go when starting out ,you may find out you don't know what you think you do ...no offense just personal experience.

thanks for the responses i think i will check out a local club and see what the tourney format is like

Club tourneys also let you meet people from your area and gather what they no before you jump to the next level of competition
