Hollow Frog Vs Solid Toad

Featured Replies

Which is your favorite of each type, and how do you decide when to throw one type over the other type?

I consider the solid toads to be buzzbaits that can be used in weedy areas where you couldn't use a metal buzzbait. So I use the toad when I want to cover water. The hollow frog gets used when I want a slower, stop-and-go presentation in heavy weeds, such as lily pads, where the bait can be stopped over holes, along edges, etc.

i agree with marty but ive caught many bass on solid toads fished with the same stop and go retreive you use with a hollow frog. overall i prefer the solid frogs just because of the better hookups

What solid frog are you using, and what hook? I'd love to try it, but I've heard folks claiming difficulty keeping solid baits from rolling over and running on their backs.

Solid toads like the Cane Toad, Horny Toad and Rage Toad

'sink' when they are paused, but not ALL toads sink.

The "Stanley Floating Ribbit" and the "Sizmic Floating Toad"

can be fished with a stop-&-go retrieve like a hollow frog,

or with a nonstop retrieve, whatever the operator desires.

YELP ;)

just make sure you dont use to heavy of a hook on a floating solid frog or it will still sink. and frogs still work fine upside down, the bass dont care
