Anyone had any 1 piece rods shipped to them and had problems? Been thinking about ordering a 7', 1 piece rod lately.

I ship them myself have never had any problems. Pvc tube or cardboard rod tube is a must.

I've had several from TW and one from tackle direct without any problems. That being said, I have shipped several without incident, except for one.

I recently sold a Loomis GLX to a member here and had problems. I shipped the rod in the same tube that TW shipped my rod in. The recepient received the rod broken. The rod tube was bent in a 90 degree angle and someone from FEDEX tried taping the tube to hide the damage. Fedex promptly covered the $100 insurance that came standard with the shipping cost, which covered the Loomis expiditer service. The recepient was very patient and understanding of the accident, but he shouldn't have had to use his expiditer for FEDEX's mistake.

I once had a rod shipped in cardboard, and the tube got crushed. Thankfully, there was no damage to the rod, but after that I won't ever use cardboard. I've ordered and shipped several rods in PVC without incident.

I've never had a broken rod. I'm about 12 for 12 as a buyer/seller. Just make sure that the package is fully insured and that the shipper knows to carefully package the rod. One easy way is to use bubble wrap inside the PVC or heavy cardboard tube, with more bubble wrap or balled up plastic shopping bags in the ends of the tube so that the rod can't slide back and forth. I once had someone ship me just a rod in a tube, nothing else, and the guides were all bent up when I got it. I can't believe it didn't break.

I have ordered rods from Cabelas previously and had them shipped to the store with the PVC tubes without a problem. Cabelas will also give you the PVC tube if you want for rods that are shipped to the store. Never had a problem with damage at all.

Thanks for all of the good info. I'm thinking I may get a rod from BPS soon.

Never. Only thing is, I have 3 rod tubes in the shed and I'm not really sure about what to do with them. I'll figure something out though!

You won't have any problems with rods shipped to you or shipping rods to other people.

Don't be afraid of cardboard tubes, they are plenty sturdy. Always send it insured to recover the value in the event that something actually goes wrong. PVC tubes are great but they're too costly unless you have someone that gives them to you for free. Lowes charges around 10....add the actual cost of shipping to this and you've lost money on the deal.

Hang on to your tube in case you need to return a rod in the future or if you should sell one to someone. Believe me, there will come a time when you need it! I have six in the garage right now and I'm happy to have them.

Just got a rod from Bass Pro and it's a darn nice crankbait rod for the money! I love it. I paired it with a Curado 200DPV and it's sweet. Be ready to pay premium shipping when ordering from BPS. Just no way around it.

Wow, I cant believe you shipped a GLX and did not purchase full insurance. It's only a couple of dollars and would have saved the loomis warranty for the buyer to use in the future.

Ive only had 1 rod broken in shipping but I would NEVER ship a rod without full retail value insurance. But thats just me.

I've bought/sold around 20 rods in the last 3 years. Only one problem. I sold a legend extreme on ebay usps and the guy contacted me saying it was damaged. He said it looked like they ran over the pvc with a vehicle 2' from one end, then taped it back up. Apparently the tape didn't fix the rod inside the pipe  . It was insured thankfully.

The key is insurance!

I wouldn't worry about it, if it gets damaged in transport BPS will take care of it. If there's one thing they do right, it's returns. I would try BTD or TW before BPS if the rod is avaiable there though, free shipping on orders over $50 is a no brainer.
