Is a 6" tube too big?

Featured Replies

I have never used a tube before, but I kept reading posts about them being great, so I bought some (before reading the tube articles here) with the mentality that a 6" worm was average, so I should get the same size tube.

Now that I have them in hand, these things seem way too big! Should I even bother trying them, or downsize to something like a 4" or smaller? If you think they are worth a try, my thought was to use a jig head inserted into the body. Do you just poke the eye through to the outside? What size should the hook be, and what type hook?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Generally speaking, there is no such thing as too big (to an extreme)

Bigger lures= less dinks (most of the time)

So, no, your 6" tube isn't "too big"

Its not too big but i might go to a 3-4 in one to start with if you want to catch numbers

I've been using the 3 1/2" and 4" sizes for smallmouth and largemouths. Been doing that for about 4 years now with great success. LMs especially like a tube rigged weedless, texas style. I've seen those big (long) tubes and have been tempted to try them. I'm sure they'd be great on weed line LMs. Give 'em a try and let us know how you make out!  ;)

I use alot of tubes and i like the 4 inch best

Haha.

Smaller tubes=More fish=Smaller Fish

Bigger tubes (or any bigger lure)=Less fish=Bigger fish

when you say a 6'' tube, are you referring to something like a YUM Doozie Tube?
