yes, but the IPT is still the same as other high speed reels. They have the high 7.9:1 ratio to make up for the smaller amount of line normally taken in (31 inches per turn).

Looks like a nice reel, but I'm not willing to risk $350 on it.

I'm not a fan of EVA knobs myself. I traded a guy my EVA's off my pat. xt for some of the new lew's paddle looking knobs. They were a perfect fit and I like them much better than the EVA's.

STX is a great reel; although I like my 201 and 51 better.

For $350 they could've at least given it a decent finish. From the looks of it, it's sporting the typical Abu paint that scratches if you look at it wrong.

The Type-R is an awesome reel. Would like to fish the MGX to see how it feels. Its crazy light but then I have a 51E Curado.

Why would you compare this to a Zill Type R? That reel is 40% heavier. Wouldn't you line it up against the Steez or Core? Or maybe something that looks a lot like the JDM PX68......ahem.

I will be getting one of these. The price is not too bad, look at the Steez and Core, if people can drop that kind of cash on those and even the same price range for a used one, this doesn't seem to bad for me. Now I am waiting to get a sneak peak on on the AG Villain rod

For those who think Revos are 'finicky', keep this in mind. The 'secret' when setting them up for any particular bait is when setting the cast control knob, it should have enough tension on the spool so that a shake of the rod tip is needed to get the bait to drop - no looser. The cast control knobs are very sensitive on them. Two or three clicks make all of the difference. I have the '09 STX with mag brake only and it was my first baitcaster in over twenty years. I have no trouble with it. Of course I backlash occasionally, always my fault, not the reel.

No LH model nixes this one for me.

Bilge, I'm following you 100%, I've just had terrible luck with them, seemingly changing spool tension from one cast to the next. I have cast a crank all day on one, only to have the reel implode on three successive casts- changing nothing and it's back to fishing just fine. I gave them time, a lot of time. Just don't have the faith in them that I do other reels.

X2 Thought it was a cool reel to have, but always having to adjust the casting control from one cast to another. My premier never failed me, but others I set it and forget about it.

I have fished and owned all brands of reels. Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum and so on and so on. I used to not like Revos for a silly reason of not owning one and only handling those that belong to friends. Now I have 2 SX and two STX reels. I can't speak for the older versions but the new STX is the most set and forget reel I have. Just set two of the centerfugal breaks, put the mag breaks at 40% and loosen the cast control all the way. Cast as hard as you can and never place your thumb on the spool even after your bait hits the water and no backlas for me. But that's just me. I only own one other reel that can do this and that is my quantum tour pt.

hahahaa..... my quantum tour pt is MY most finicky reel. it ticks me off sometimes.

this new revo.... for half the price i can buy a quantum smoke and put 50 bucks worth of carbonmatrix drag in it and have the same freakin reel.

and i can get it left handed.

I'm sure they will have a left handed version befor long its still on the drawing board not even in production yet I believe. Wasn't it not to long ago like 90% of the BC out there were rh only and the lefty is a newer development. Give it time they will work the bugs out ofer lh models and prolie change something else all the pics iv even seen are CG renderings not actual pictures.

No they have had test models out for months now. I think the first production models rolled out last month.

It looks really amazing and super light weight but at that kinda price range I would never buy it. In the end I think I would rather buy more reels in the $200 range and spend the rest on tackle. My lures are what catch me fish not my reels. All my reels do is look nice and catch the angler

Also about the lh retrieve thing why is it bait casters are generally rh retrieve but new spinning reels come lh retrieve by default. That always seemed sorta weird to me.
