Space Monkey Help

Featured Replies

Ok, I need some tips/advice as to what I could be doing wrong here.  I have tried the space monkey a few dozen times in about 10 lakes at this point where I know there are fish.  I have tried weightless, t-rigged, swim it on the top, pause retrieve pause, pitching it to cover, and everything else I can think of.  I've yet to get anything other than a sunny nipping at the fins as they swim.  People swear by these things, I've heard nothing but good reviews, but I get no real bites on them.  I switch to something else, and bam, out come the fish.  Usually I would just toss it in the box and put something else on, but for some reason I really want these things to work.  These are lakes that on a good day when the bite is good me and my buddy can come out with anywhere from 20-50 fish in a few hours, and we've gotten close to 100 fish in about 5 hours.  To give you an idea, the fishing absolutely "sucked" today and we got 10 in about an hour and a half.  It's at the point where everytime I take out the space monkey my buddy laughs at me.  I keep telling him i'm going to get one, and I want to!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat !

Up North for a weekend I really fished this bait. Rigged it with

a 1/8 oz keel weighted Gammy 4/0 hook. Fished it slow, fast, top

bottom and everywhere between. Caught a 12" dink on it.

Ended up doing good on finesse worms, & senkos.

Go Figure !!

It's not our fault, it's just that the space monkey hasn't cooperated

yet.

But I'll keep throw'n him anyway.

GOOD LUCK ! ;)

I have had similar experiences with the Anaconda and Lizard. I have also thrown the Shad, but not nearly enough to give a review.

I have not got a bite off the lizard and have only caught some smaller fish on the 7.5in Anaconda. Maybe the reviews and advertising have caught ME instead of me catching the FISH.

I don't own any space monkeys, but you know I still want to try some out and plan on buying a few packs whenever I can. Dang I hate that bait monkey.

Sometimes the fish's appetite calls for something different.

i'm gonna keep trying.  as far as calling for something different, it seems like they NEVER want the space monkey.  Like I said, this is in a bunch of lakes many different times, not just throwing it out once or twice and calling it a day.  tried it for a while today, nothing.  it was me, 2 friends, and our girlfriend.  the girls who have been fishing maybe 5 times in their life where catching fish left and right.

Maybe it is a color thing and the fish want to see a different color space monkey. I have caught bass with them using them on a jig head, a keel weighted hook and tx rigged (not pegged). You may also want to try a different weight for either a faster or slower fall rate.

I have some days here where the bass will only hit certain colors. My best days usaully are when I throw the watermelon red/black flake. I also use spike it on the appendages once and a while. I hope this helps, good luck.

Well I have had good luck on the Space Monkey over the weekend.  I am just getting back into fishing (the last time I was bass fishing was when they first introduced the Slug-o  ;)).

I picked up a few different baits that seemed popular on here and the Space Monkey was one of them.  I Texas rigged it with a owner 4/0 1/8oz keel weighted hook and just did a slow retrieve.  yesterday I caught 4 on it and one was about 3lbs.

So far I like it a lot!

I have had success on finicky bass fishing the space monkey t-rigged on 8lb fluoro and a 1/16 oz bullet weight. It has a really slow, fluttery fall that the bass seem to like when they're in a funk. Keep what Burley said in mind too though, no matter how good a bait is,  its not the right choice all the time.
