I cant seem to be able to get my flourocarbon leader to connect to my braided mainline. im trying to do a blood knot but i just cant do it. It always comes undone with only a little pressure. what kind of knots do you guys use to attach a leader?

The Alberto is the strongest, not the easiest to tie. To me the albright special is smaller and easier knot to tie.

Those finger savers really help to.

Do the surgeon knot. I do it on all my leaders and it is so easy to tie. No break-offs either!

I like the back to back UNI knot. When you take your time and tie it right, I've had it last for weeks.

That is the knot I use with 6 turns on both knots. Never a break-off or slippage. I only retie when I need to replace the laader. of about 3'-4'.

I have another related question or so. If I have 10# test mainline should I run a 10# leader? Should the leader be fluorocarbon? How long of a leader should I use (senkos...). I sometimes use a swivel , what knot do you use with them?

Sorry for the Hijack

Albright knot. Just make sure you cinch the tag ends tight.

I've been tying leaders to braid for a lot of years now. At first I was told the only way to do it was with a Uni to Uni knot. Fine.

First problem I encountered was the sheer bulk of the knot going through my guides. Then, after breaking that joint on many occaisions (especially striper fishing), I switched to the Albright knot. This greatly improved the connection and the knot flowed through the rod much easier. I didn't get as many breaks at the joint either.

The past two years I've been using the Alberto, which is a double Albright actually. And I apply a bit of "Zap-A-Gap" glue over the knot turns for even better smoothness and strength. Have not experienced a knot failure since. JMO. :)
