Rapala Skitter-Pop

Featured Replies

I just picked up a small rapala skitter pop for so smallmouth and some largemouth. I didnt really mind paying the $8 for it cause its topwater and i'll most likely never use it? Is this lure good for the walking the dog technique? how many of you guys use it. Looks like a nice lure but i havent thrown it much yet. Im gonna give it a go tomorrow.

I think, skitter-pop = popper, skitter-walk = spook type lure.

Never tried walking the dog with the skitter-pop, but as a popper, it's pretty good. Try it, it catches fish.

The only rapala that I never caught anything on is their rattletrap.

I have to disagree with the others. The skitterpop does not have as aggressive a "cupping" in the mouth, making it more of a "finesse" popper. Because of this, it produces less resistance in the water and I think it walks rather well. Walking the popper might not always be the ticket, but you can certainly do it. I've caught fish doing this, particularly in saltwater. I like to do a hybrid retrieve of walking and popping the lure.

basscrusher is correct in the fact that it will walk. It won't walk like your typical spook or skitterwalk, but never the less it does have the some side to side action if you throw slack in the line. Sometimes a slow walk with a pop or splash is the ticket.

Good luck with it.

My most productive popper. Frog pattern.
