The answer to that question will be personal preference of the builder. Each builder will have his/her's own preference on what blanks they like to use, and what they can get.

Personally I liked using the full line of St Croix blanks, and when Gary Loomis restarted his new company I really like using NFC (North Fork Composite) blanks.

But it will be up to you and the builder you chose.........

As far a re-using a GLX rod to strip and re-load, I wouldn't waste the rod.......

I agree with .RM. on the first point. Each builder will have different experience with different blanks, and will have different preferences. You should go with a builder you trust, who fishes for the same targets species/techniques.

A good builder can strip and re-use your GLX's. That would be a tough one for me to swallow since the rods are high end already lol. Minimal return for the cost imo. Improvements are possible, but very small return on investment.

If you strip a glx you will probably lose the warranty from loomis.

Actually all warranties (since 1997) are held by Shimano/Loomis

Gary Loomis (North Fork Composites) are no longer associated with Shimano/Loomis

Tight Lines All! :fishing1:

I understand the relationship between loomis/shimano & the Gary Loomis departure/North Fork Composite. My point was loss of warranty for the glx if you altered the blank.

Stripping and putting new whatever on your GLX rod wouldn't alter the warranty on the blank as long as it was done well, you just would never get a rod back built like your rebuild. My GLX rods have all been redone,5 of my new guides equal the weight of one of the original #6 guides on the factory rod, all weigh between 1/4 to 3/8 oz lighter than they did. Much of the weight difference is forward of the reel and increases balance and sensitivity a good bit.

I have a GLX HSR 9000 3 piece spinning travel rod that will be much lighter yet when redone.

I have nothing to add other than the sheer admiration I possess for the toad of a smallmouth in Dwight's avatar.

Carry on.

There several sources for high quality blanks and many have full line-ups for a variety of techniques. One of the nice things about a custom build is working with your builder to finds the perfect blank for what you want to do. This often means crossing brand lines but not always. Email of call if you'd like to discuss in detail.

Unless it's for sentimental reasons I discourage rebuilds. They are labor intensive and there's always a chance of damage being done in the process.
