What Kind Of Rod Should I Get?

Featured Replies

If I throw mostly cranbaits and spinners and frogs, sometimes senkos and poppers but not as often as I do crankbaits, would a 7' 2" casting rod with med-heavy power and moderate action be a good decision?

Consider:

1. The rod's specifications for line test and bait weight for what you will be throwing.

2. Rods specific to your technique, such as the BPS Crankin Stick and the G. Loomis cranking rods.

3. The higher the graphite rating the more sensitive the rod.

4. Tip action.

You will recieve lots of suggestions for specific rods from the guys so write every suggestion on a sheet of paper and then go to the manufacturer's web site and Tackle Express to read what the manufacters say and the Tackle Express reviews.

The rod outline you described above is fine for crankbaits but you may want to consider a heavy rod for frogs. :)

If your only buying one rod for multiple purposes then yes that is a good choice

Medium fast - spinning

Medium Heavy fast - casting

If i had to buy 1 rod these would be my choices in spinning and casting.

Why MH for casting reel but only med for a spinning reel?

A moderate action is best for a dedicated cranking rod but for a multi purpose I'd suggest a fast or mod'fast action. 7' +/- is a good length.
