Swimbaits

Featured Replies

I've been watching a few episodes of the bassmaster elite series, and I've seen KVD, Skeet Reese and Byron Velvick using swimbaits. Of course Skeet Reese and Byron Velvick had the Rago SKT Swimmer swimbaits. I'd like to get a few of the swimbaits that have the treble hook on the bottom, like the ragos, but they're to expensive. Anybody got any swimbaits with the treble hook feature that isn't $15 and $20??

Most line through baits like those are worth the money. They last through many, many fish without being destroyed. Consider a single pack of hollow bellies cost as much as $9 and you're better off. Optimum has a line of baits that run around the $10-$12 mark, too. There's also the Zman baits that are SUPER baits for the money.

If you like that style then I suggest you get the Rago. Those are the baits that Byron and Skeet used to win those tournaments on. If you shop around you can probably find a cheaper price or you can wait for one of the big sales.

The majority of well made swimbaits are not cheap, regarding the Rago I've stuck a few this year on the 7" Light Hitch color which is one of the better baits out there.

One option is to get a pack of hollow belly swimbaits and some of the jigheads that you insert into the body of the bait.

The brand escapes me, but I have some of the jigheads that have a large top hook plus a loop that can be pushed out through the bottom. You can then attach a split ring and treble hook to that bottom loop so that your lure ends up with a single top hook and a treble hanging off the bottom

Why not try a 3:16 Rising Son. Awesome baits.

I've been doing really well with a Decoy Hydratail lately. It has a single hook on top and a spot to rig up a treble on the bottom. It's a little easier for a fish to throw since it's not a line through type bait but they're only $12 so they don't break the bank and are pretty durable.

I like the Hydra tail as well, good finesse swimbait.

When it comes to line threw swimbaits my favorite is an Osprey. It is probably the most productive soft swimbait I have thrown. Especially when I fish places that have spots and smallies. The next one on my list that keeps working its way to the top is the Trash Fish made by little creeper. Its not a line threw but man do the fish like to eat it.
