t-rig vs. jig

Featured Replies

lets say we have a t-rig tube/creature and a jig w/ trailer. does one have any distinct advantage over the other? i cant really think of any and i wonder if there are scenarios where one is used over the other.

the only advantage i can attest too is a t -rig will hook them better when they ain't as aggressive, aside from that maybe the diff ways they fall a t -rig will kinda glide a jig will go straight  down. Of course all this would depend on the weights of each lure

I actually just saw this years Bassmasters Classic highlight show this morning and they had Skeet on talking about this scenario.  He was asked about why he used the chigger craw texas rigged on the final day instead of on a jig and he said that the fish seemed to be biting on a more subtle presentation that day.

That's pretty similar to my feeling on the difference, being that even though the two presentations you mention are similar, the jig will still have more bulk to it overall and sometimes the more clean and simple t-rig will get more bites.  I also like the t-rig in extra thick stuff because I feel it gets through easier than a less streamlined jig.

Texas Rig 80% vs Jig-N-Craw 20% ;)

If my jig is picking up a lot of grass, weeds, dead leaves, etc. I'll switch to the t-rig.

A T-rig is more weedless, better hook-ups, completely different action, and will catch fish of all sizes. It has been my experience that jigs attract a slightly larger sized fish.

Different profile in the water, but I'm like Catt, I'm like Catt, 80% t-rig 20% jig.

Jigs typically offer a little more bulk, which is probably why they tend to catch larger bass. Texas rigs are a little more versatile, and they're much more weedless. They come through grass much easier than jigs do. I also think that t-rigs offer a more natural presentation then jigs do, which is why I tend to use t-rigs more in clear water.

For me it has to do with the water I am fishing - if I am on rip-rap or rock piles - I will allways have a jig on.  If I am fishing grass, I will always have a T-rig.  When it comes to brush piles or fishing buck brush or willows or such, I will alternate between the two.  It is mostly what I can fish effeciently and what the fish want.

Thats a good question that could bring up some very detailed answers. I'd like to see what dictates why everyone uses one over the other.

Mine are pretty simple. Water color, Season, and Fish's preferrence are my signs. The first two give me a starting point while the last tells me if I was right.

I will choose a Texas-rigged bait to get a limit, then go to a jig to upgrade my limit.

I'm the other way around. Jig 75% vs Texas rig 25%

Jigs stand out more for me.It brings the bait to life for me,as T-rigs just look too lifeless.
