Best Way To Get Rid Of A Hive ?

Featured Replies

I was mowing the lawn yesterday and discovered this nest in the tree. Was wondering what would be the best way to get rid of it. I cant get in a bag because of different branches that run through the nest. I have attached a few pics.

When we were younger we used to shoot em to pieces with the shotgun or paintball gun then ran like hell. Can't ya just get some spray and hose it down kill the buggers then go up and cut it down

We might try spraying it. We were actually gonna try the shotgun but because of the location of the nest and the houses next to us we opted to not do that. :D

You can smoke them out and then remove the hive. Depending on where you are located it may be best to just wait until it cools down in the fall/winter and then remove it. That is a BIG Hive...

Three people with some wasp/hornet spray. Wait for dusk/dark (they will all be back in the hive by then) Stand back far enough to be accurate and not spray each other. You must hit all of the openings of the hive. As they come piling out of the opening, they're going down. Go ahead and empty the cans, soak it good.

Are you trying to get rid of the hive or kill the bugs?

If you want to get rid of the hive you going to want to smoke them out then remove the hive and destroy it. If you want to kill the bees I'd suggest gas and a match. Kill two bees with one match so to speak

I actually want to get rid of the whole thing, bees and all. I almost knocked the entire thing down on myself when I was mowing.

Well we did joke about dousing the hive with gas and maybe then hitting it with a flaming arrow. I dont think that would work well for my tree though. :D

Call Billy The Exterminater.

I once saw my neighbor DEMOLISH a hive with an aerosol can and a lighter. the entire thing went up in flames and everything died. it was awesome.

Last year I had a colony of about 50000 bees in the ceiling of my side porch. With the trouble bees are having (dying off) you should talk to a beekeeper and see if they want the colony. A high school friends dad did mine. He didn't want the colony so we put bee suits on and smoked em right before dark to calm them and then hit em with spray killer. I will say that's a huge hive and if you start spraying they will go nuts. When we started spraying the you could hear the buzz from 50 feet away. When we did it everybody not in a suit was 100ft+ away and there were still a few stings. I would recomend u have an expert help unless u plan on burning it. With spray enough will get loose that it could be pretty hazardous. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yeah an expert is the way to go for this one. I could come up with a plan to take it down without hurting the tree but I'm a young guy who isn't smart enough to call the expert. :D If you do it by yourself I'd suggest you follow these rules

1. Gas it

2. Light it

3. Get the h*** out of there

Also suggest you warn the neighbors beforehand.

Good Luck

Call a bee expert to remove the bees and hive.

Or you could just call Yogi and BooBoo :rolleyes::D

Thanks guys. It looks like the exterminator is going to be taking care of the hive for me. I do have to admit I really wanted to walk up to it and slug it with a bat though. lol :D

Jackas 3D = Beehive Tether Ball. Hilarious
