I couldn't find where this was discussed previously, but I see where BPS sells Gamakatsu drop shot rigs and was curious whether or not anyone has ever used them. Also, while they aren't that expensive, for someone like me who wants to start getting into this technique, are they worth it?

Why spend any money at all? Use braided line, tie your favorite sinker to the end. Move up the line the appropriate distance for the depth you want to fish and tie a double overhand loop in the line. Make sure your loop is large enough to tie a palomar knot to your hook and viola! Drop shot rig! JMHO

Brother fisherman, don't buy that junk.  Do what Alpster said.  The one you make yourself will probaly be better and a whole lot cheaper.

I pre-rig my own DS rigs.  Just tie a hook on (I use stand-out hooks) leave about 4 feet of tag end so you can trim it in the field, leave about 2 feet of line above the hook and tie on a swivel.  When you need one just tie on to the swivel.  Saves time in the boat and gives me a chance to play with my tackle in the off season.  

If you dont want to tie your own the gami ones are very good I have used them before and I believe they come tied on fluorocarbon line, thats a good thing in gin clear water, but tieing your own is easy also, but the gami ones come in 3 packs for $1.69, thats pretty inexspensive.
