yum money minnow.

Featured Replies

I just picked up a pack of yum money minnows and plan to rig with an owner weighted hook 6/0 never fished these before and am looking for any info, retrieve speed, cover that works best. thanks and if any one has any suggestions on different swim baits to try I am all ears.

Thanks.

I've never done the money minnows, but I LOVE Reaction innovations skinny dippers, which work pretty much the same way, I'll throw them pretty much anywhere, anytime I can get away with it, through pads, through grass, in open water over drop offs. they are as good of a search bait in my mind as any spinner bait, or trap, and in my arsenal has essentially taken the place of said baits.

i like money minnows in the smaller size and pearl color... a steady retrieve works well. i use braid and only use a floro leader if absolutely necessary. i like to throw them in lilly pads and grass too. what has worked well for me it if i get a hit and miss, i let the minnow fall like stunned live bait and a lot of times the fish will go for it again. i use yum shad attractant as well.

There 's no right answer when it comes to speed, telling you anything else is misleading, you have to find out by trying different speeds, yesterday you killed them with a arthritic snail pace ( tha tail barely kicking ) pace, today you kill them by reeling in like mad.

With the money minnow placing the hook correctly is vital, it 's gotta be right in the middle line of the bait or the bait runs crooked and doesn 't work well.
