I have a yamaha 200 hp hpdi 2004 year engine on a ranger boat.

last year runing engine at (W.O.T.) i got about 5200 rpms this year iam getting about 4800 rpms 64 mph down to 48 mph. engine runs as smouth as a kitten. i have not done anything to engine. other than clean and wax. is there any adjustment to jack up the rpm's. Buy this question you can see i dont know a thing about engines. just dont know why rpm's would drop

Hey Friend is the motor trim to the same spot as last year, yes the motor trim can change rpm and speed it dont have to move much to make a big difference just my experience since you havent change nothing else nothing going on with prop are they

you may have a blockage in the fuel line or jets. Or, you may need to think about cleaning the carbs. I would start simple and run a can of seafoam through the motor to see if that makes a difference. Then I would start to look at the more detailed issues like foulded carbs etc.

That says it all. If you haven't done any routine maintenance, then you're going to have problems. Take it into a shop and have them perform a full tune up - including changing the water pump impeller. Chances are, your spark plugs are worn out and/or your fuel filter is clogged. Routine maintenance replaces these. I'd also have them replace the gear oil (lower unit oil) while they're at it, or you could end up with costly repairs very soon.

I recommend having this done every year, except replacing the impeller, which should be done every 2 years.

In addition, there's been a few recalls on the engine since you bought it, so you should have the necessary upgrades performed as well. Those should be free.

there are no carbs on this motor but there are about 5 filters on this motor if i recall correctly and i think they need servicing yearly. sounds like one could be clogged. the recalls available pretty much turn this motor into a series 2
