for freshwater try a berkely lighting rod

X2.

I usually fish G.Loomis, but I do have a couple Cabelas XML rods that are fine, pretty reasonably price and seems to be on sale frequently.

Abu garcia vendetta is the best the best budget rod out there IMO. Very good quality rod, for 80 bucks. Top end SiC guides, built on a 30 ton graphite blank. Sensitive enough to feel the fish when fishing a jig or worm, and balances very nicely with most reels.

For a little more money, falcone BuCoo, and the Veritas are great!

why not take a look at the Denali Jadewood 842CB its a 7ft med fast rod , at $89 its a great deal that wont break the bank and i feel fishes in the $100-180 class. ive fished the abu vendettas and vertas and feel those are very dead compared to these jadewoods. its just another option i think is worth a look.

Vendetta 6ft 6in medium

For spinner baits I like the medium heavy rods around 6.5 to 7'. Kistler rods just put a new rod out on the market in the Carbon Steel with micro guides and it works great for spinner baiting and it want break the bank as well. Medium Heavy rods to me are just a good all around all purpose rods. Good luck

I'm a spinning guy and I use a saltwater inshore med 8/17 7' rod for 90% of my freshwater bass fishing, it doubles well if I choose to take to saltwater. I've had no problem handling bass or snook up to 15# with a 2000 reel. The ones I use are very reasonably priced, not wanting to get into a brand war, PM me interested.

I'm sure everyone has a favorite rod and when you ask what is the "Best of" anything you will get every name in the book. What you want to look for is a rod that suits how you fish and what you fish with most. A good all around rod for bass is a Medium Heavy (MH) rod. Sense your are just getting started I wouldn't get anything longer than a 7ft rod. It will be good for heavier spinnerbaits, light jigs, soft plastics. If you find yourself fishing with crankbaits and light spinnerbaits then go with a Medium (M) action rod. It will be good for most moving baits.

Phenix UMBX 606H, there's one on the sale in OC craig's list. Best one for both salt and fresh. I like this one better than my DX703C.
