Fake Lucky Craft Baits?

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Just curious, since some of you guys are a lot better at identifying baits than I am. Take a look at this link to and EBAY auction. The center 2 rows of cranks look like fakes to me. The paint schemes are different and the diving lips are painted, which I've never seen on Lucky Craft baits.

You can buy baits that look very similar to LC baits. I don't know if they are as effective or not but they aren't very hard to find.

I'm not looking to buy them, just saying that this guy is trying to pass these off as LC's and I don't think they are.

I'd have to agree, never seen a lucky craft with a painted lip unless those are all custom jobs. Lots of people out there trying to scam someone and make a quick buck. The unpainted knockoffs are less than 1/3 of what a regular LC sells for. I'm sure someone could paint them and say they're LC and someone will take the bait eventually and they'll make a good profit off of them.

They do look like LCs, but I'll bet they're knock-offs. 1. Anyone with custom painted LCs would have the pride/brains to post that information in the ad.... 2.LCs aren't painted on the bill 3. There have been cases of knock-off baits brought up here before. Just my thoughts...

I have that same Moonsault crankbait and the lip is not painted. Unpainted LC knockoffs are easy to find on eBay.

You'll never know if they're genuine unless you buy them. The knockoffs I see are easy to detect once you have them in hand. Obviously, these have been repainted if they are originals. What would kill the deal for me is the minimum bid price, more than $12 for a lure that costs $15 new retail. Look around and you'll eventually find some originals on sale from a trusted retailer at that price, or better.

Some of the guys selling the fake Chinese knockoff Lucky Craft or Megabass baits are very good at hiding the fact that they are not the real thing. They always use terms like, looks just like, very similar too or they will say its their own model of the bait. The guy that is painting the real thing will have the original box.

I have a large number of KO baits from several suppliers that I have sectioned to see how they are made and I have never found the first one that is close to the originals. Most have mismatched halves, weights that will not stay in place( weight transfer style baits), water leaks, internal wall thicknesses which vary a considerable amount, and hook hangers and line ties which are so misaligned that cannot be bent enough to get straight. My personal recomendation is if buy KO baits that you get at least 6 a at a time, that way you might get 1 that runs decent. Yep I have pictures of the cut-aways.

One other thing, there will be those who will tell you how great thes KO baits are but if you go to any bass fishing forum that has a tackle making section or tackle under ground you will realize the names of the salesmen (Shills) will be the same.

Like the drunk at the ballet, If they wanted tall girls why didn' they hire tall girls. If you want a Lucky craft buy a Luckycraft.
