Storm Chugbug

Featured Replies

I seen this lure last time I was at Dicks and wondered whether or not I should buy one to check it out. Im going back to Dicks tomorrow so before I go can you guys tell me if you had any success with this lure? Or am I better off just sticking with the pop-r?

One of the best topwaters ever made.  They pop, spit, and walk all at the same time.  Chug Bugs are a must have in your topwater arsenal  :D

A big +1......Chug Bugs are a completely different animal than a Pop-R - you can almost walk them like a Spook.  One of the best top-waters in life.   8-)

Whqt Nqturql and String said X 2.  They are a great bait.

Great top waters and they make um 3 diff sizes they excel in choppy water as well as calm water for me anyhow even caught a few crappie with um they love the feather tails, my best bass on top was  with a chug bug!!

Field & Stream had an article recently where they called the Storm Chugbug the number 1 bass lure of all time.

I hear George Welcome likes 'em, too. :D

I know the first impression of the chug bug is rather strange but buy some because they definately work

and they are not expensive!

A salesperson last year at Gander Mt told me about the chug bug and how he ran out of stock mid-summer.  I found one at Dick's and love it.  The Pop-R and Chug Bug are my 2 favorite topwater baits.

The one thing I noticed with the Chug Bug is that has more rattling noise.  I fish both the Pop-R and Chug Bug with the twitch, twitch, pause method.  Both produced very well for me.   The one thing I did read is that the chug bug should do better with a little chop on the water.

I am curious to see when one decides between a Pop-R and a Chug Bug.

Wow, I didn't expect so much positive feedback on this lure. Looks like im definetly going to have to check this one out. What are some good colors with this lure?

I find that the color is not really that important but i do replace the original hooks with owners.

I don't think color matters either.  The one I found at Dick's was Natural Perch and used it in all water types.  I bought a shad colored one over the winter at a Wally World that had it.  I have the 1/4 oz versions.

I dont know about bass, but false albacore off the S.C. coast CRUSH them.

This is a must have bait for your arsenal. They excel in stained and dirty water. Although, my favorite chug type bait is a Rico the Chug Bug is a producer.
