Beginner Bow Hunting Setup

Featured Replies

I kinda want to start bowhunting, but honestly I have no idea how, or what to start with. What would be a good beginner stater set?

There's lots of good beginner bow setups but it's going to depend a lot on what feels good to you and your price range. If you go to an archery store, Cabela's, or Bass Pro you can buy a bow package deal usually. This is probably the cheapest way to go and will save you a lot of hassle with choosing and mounting each piece that you need on the bow. Lots of entry level bows are pretty nice bows. If you have a place nearby that sells bows and has an archery range so you can shoot a few bows and get a feel for which on you like best that would be the best way to go. I probably shot 15 or 20 bows before I bought my first one, it wasn't the nicest one they had but it just felt right in my hand and I shot it well. Plus if you start shooting and decide you don't like shooting a bow as much as you thought you would you won't have to spend hundreds of dollars to find that out B)

I would do the same thing as bluebasser said except that I wouldn't buy it from basspro.

I just bought a bow the other day from a local archery shop that's a package deal ready to hunt for $100 less than basspro. I got everything bps had with it along with a release, case, and half a dozen arrows.

Total package cost me $440.

If I bought the same thing at bps it would have been $550+.

Well the problem is I live in a super small town so there are no outdoor shops anywhere. And that's some good advice Bluebasser86. I was thinking of buying a Longbow, cause I don't want a compound with all the strings, and pulleies it might break casue I'm just a beginner.

Nothing beats a shooting partner. Back when I got started there were very few people who hunted with a bow. I was self taught. But now it's easy to find someone who shoots. Since you live in a small town, everyone knows everyone so just start asking around and in no time you should find someone willing to shoot with you and get you started on the right foot.

He may not let you tag along at first. Ask him if he will help you pick out a good bow for you and then if he can help you learn how to shoot it. There is nothing better than a good mentor.

PSE Stinger$300 new, Gold Tip arrows, TruFire release, Morell targets. Watch youtube videos for techniques, find a shooting partner, and prActice as much as possible. if you need any help you can PM me. I shoot 3D tournaments since i was a kid.
