Recommended Posts

Just curious which pair of del mars offer the best bang for the buck? theres so many to choose from, do they all use the same lens? is it just the frames that are different? Thanks.

Yes I'm also wanting an answer on this question. I'm looking at buying the Caballito or Blackfin Costa Del Mars, but didn't want to pull the trigger also. So anyone out there who can chime in on these glasses and how they fit on your face please do so.

Costa Del Mar makes a million different styles because everyone has a different shaped head. It is best if you can find a local retailer and see which pair fits you best. Costa classifies them in sizes, such as medium or large, but that doesn't mean that one style in large fits like another style in large. Just go see what fits you the best. You can also see which lens you like the best. Once you find your pair, check around on prices. I ended up getting mine straight from the factory. The price was just as good, plus no customers had a chance to jack with them.

For me, it was the Harpoon in tortoise with the 580 lens in copper, best money I've spent.

Check out their website, at the bottom of the page under store click on technology. There's info on the differant lenses and the materials they use for the temples/frames.

I think the lowest priced are along the lines of the Fathom (which I have 2 pr., one is a back up for when needed) and similar models, approx $109.00 every where you look I think.

I've had these same pr. for about 12 years now, wear them "EVERY" day. Have used the repair/warrenty service 3 times and every time have been a happy customer and do not hesitate to recommend Costas (any model) to anyone that asks.

Without a doubt the 580 lens is the best there is for clarity and reducing eye strain on the water. It's unreal what it can do for your fishing. Are others sufficient? Probably, but when it comes down to seeing the most you can without having a headache at the end of a 16 hour day, the 580 takes it.

Like BMG said, go to a retailer and find the best fit, and then go home and buy them off eBay from a reputable seller. You can get Costa 580s on there in the $150 range. I'm just finishing up my first season using them, and they have lived up to all the claims so far. I'm not experiencing the itchy, sore eyes after long days on the water like I did previously with my Native sunglasses. I use the Man 'O Wars with the side plate removed, and silver-mirrored 580 lenses.

I got a pair of Corbina's with green mirror 580G lenses this year and they’re great. They're very comfortable and the lenses are amazing. I used Maui Jim's previously but, I'll be stickin' with Costa's now.

Great glasses! If you have a big melon like myself I would go with the hammerheads.
