Those Carp Guys Are Out There

Featured Replies

So I was reading magazines while the better half was perusing teaching books at Barns and Noble and stumbled upon a magazine focused mainly on carp fishing, although some other equally less glorious fish were highlighted as well. And Im not too sure if I like their direction with fishing or not.

I dig the Jersey Shore style gal they have on the cover, but I dont know if Im into the 40lb carp shes holdin.

Well, that's an interesting combination. Suppose that one may get some guys into trouble when it's lying around with "Bivvy Babes" inside. I have to say I got a chuckle out of that cover.

I'm always disappointed when I catch a carp, but some fly fisherman swear they're the best "game" fish out there.

All British magazines (music, cycling, fishing, etc) love to randomly throw the eye-candy in there.

I'm always quite pleased when I hook a carp and actually land it. They fight twice as hard as a bass of the same size and they get huge. I've caught a couple 30+ and they can tow my boat around. Caught one years back while wading in waist deep water and the thing almost drowned me. I agree they aren't much to look at, but man do they pull!

Carp are great sport. There are quite few fish species I catch that fly under the radar but represent themselves exceptionally well in the fighting department, not to mention are excellent table fare.

A case in point, last year one of my neighbors( a snowbird) is a charter captain from Cape May New Jersey, charters striped bass and was telling me how great they were. I said that's only because you never caught a nice jack, so I took him jack fishing for 20 pounders, all he wants to do now is fish for Jack Crevelles and has yet to bring up striped bass fishing.
