Best Cold Morning Bait

Featured Replies

Hey guys it's been about 45 here in Nashville during first sunlight with a water temp of 57. What's your favorite bait to throw in these conditions with smooth water and no activity?

I pay more attention to the water temp than the air temp this time of year. Depending on the clarity and the lake with 57 degree water I'd be fishing a rattle bait, spinnerbait, crank, shakeyhead, or a jig. Try a few diffrent baits at each spot and listen to the fish if you get a response!

X2 on the water temp before air temp. A crankbait is a good start, but don't be afraid to switch up quickly to slower baits.

Rattle trap if they are active or a suspending jerkbait if they are not.

crankbait..

i've got water temp of 53 here and a crankbait has been the ticket.. ;)

The only crankbait I have confidence in is a red eye 1/2 rattle trap

I think you would have better success if you went in he afternoon when things are stirring. In addition if there is some light wind to break up the flat surface then that is even better.

"Smoke on the water" top water. "Clear and clean" spinnerbait or rattle trap

On Norris Lake NE of Knoxville we are experiencing the same conditions. The buzzbait and other top water work well until 9am, then cranks, spinnderbaits, and etc. as day wears on.
