Do you all downsize your line in fall? If you only do it for certain situations tell what those are.

I down size on one rig. I have a rig with 14 or 15lb test with a lipless bait and a have the exact same set up with 8 or 10lb test. Has nothing to do with line visibility, but I just like to be able to run something deeper and not have to slow down a whole lot when I'm doing it. It may make a difference on a tough bite though (who knows)

I downsize my line on my jig rod. It isn't for the clear water but because I switch to smaller, lighter jigs and the lighter line makes them easier to feel. Plus bass don't have as much fight in them in the colder water so I can handle even really large fish on lighter line.

I think it's situational. Water getting clearer in fall, yes. Bass moving to open water and becoming less active, yes. Using smaller baits, yes. If it just rained, the water is dirty, and you're fishing heavy cover, no.

I don't change out line, but I will take different combos based on expected conditions.

I use light line all year to begin with. My baitcasters have either 10, 12 or 14.

In clear water, low weed fall conditions I tend to leave the combos with 14 at home.
