best hook for 10" powerbait worm

Featured Replies

getting ready for a night tourney 8pm to 8am and picked up some black 10" powerbait worms.

the largest hook i can find around here is a 6/0 Gammie Monster.  seems very heavy gauge??

will that work?  i thought i had read here were a 7/0 is best......but if all i can get is 6/0 should i be ok?

i have in my arsenal...

black jitterbug

black cavitron

black single colorado blade spinner

black chatter bait

any other suggestions???

thanks..

I like the Owner 5/0 Offset Wide Gap for all my worm and lizard applications.

Owner Offset Shank in 5/0 is what I use.  Literally many hundreds of bass caught with this over the years.

    Owner 7/0 worm hook.

Gamakatsu 5/0 or 6/0 are what I use. No problems yet :) Also don't think Junebug won't catch at night. Because I promise it will.

I like the regular thinner 5/0 gamakatsu ewg hooks.  They may be a little smaller, but i feel that if i have a weak hook set the thinner hook will be easier to set the hook.  The 6/0 hooks are thick, but they will work.  ive had alot of luck with green pumpkin and Okeechobee craw at night as well as the black.  THe 10" Anaconda Rage tails are my go to baits at night.  I like Netbait Paca Craws and Brush hogs too.  They put off alot of water.  Good luck, let us know how it goes

While I do stash a few 6s and 7s in my box, it's rare that I ever use larger than a 5, even with a worm that large. You don't want a hook so big that a 'keeper' can't get his lips around it.

Have you thought of rigging with two hooks, like a Creme worm rig? I know you know what I mean. 4 in front, 2 or 3 at the tail?

6/0 owner offset  But don't forget the black ribbit toad or *** strokin toad  5/0 ewg gamis for these

thanks for the feedback...

i think i'll go with a 5/0....

now.... EWG or offset worm hook???

i'll let ya know how it goes...  i'm the co-angler... so my success kinda depends on how he positions the boat to give me access

The only reason in my book to go with an EWG is if you are going to swap out the worm for a bulkier bait, like a beaver or creature.  Otherwise, its just extra hardware that gets caught in the weeds.  The gap on a plain old 5/0 worm hook is plenty to get a good hookset every time.
