Shimano Scorpion Dc 7

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about buying myself a x-mas present... it's nice to be single. LOL! Does anyone have this reel? How well does the digital cast control work? Do you still get backlashes? I'm not sure which rod I want to pair it with, I'm looking at a Dobyns DX744 or a G Loomis NRX 854c. Give me some idea's.

Thanks

I own both a Scorpion and Metanium DC...the DC system is significantly different between the two models and I prefer the Metanium system over the newer one that comes on the Scorpion. Don't get me wrong the Scorpion performs well, but not up to the Metanium, which is easily the best reel I've ever fished.

As for backlashes...you CAN backlash both reels, but the DC system makes it much more difficult. I have to really be "spazz" casting for it to happen, which occasionally occurs when I forget that the DC system does have it's limits.

What specific questions do you have?

Mine are paired with NRX's and make a good combo.

What is the difference between the two in your opinion?

What is the difference between the two in your opinion?

The biggest difference is the one I already mentioned. The DC system is completely different between the two models.

Metanium

4 different settings based on conditions, windy, longest cast, middle distance, all around

DC "whine" sound from the system (hard to explain but it's soothing)

I get longer casting performance

Slightly smoother wheel with a little less backplay in the handle

Scorpion

3 different settings based on line type, floro, mono, braid

No DC whine (and oddly enough it's kinda a big deal to me that it's missing)

Slightly less casting distance

I think designing (or more accurately redesigning) the DC system around line type and not conditions took away some of the flexibility of the system, which leads to the slightly lesser casting distance. That's just an opinion and I could be wrong. Overall I like and fish both reels, but while I'm sure I WILL buy another Metanium DC at some point(already have a couple), this is probably my last Scorpion because of how much the Metanium has spoiled me. Both are very good reels, but I prefer the old style DC system, and let's be honest that's really what you are paying for with a DC reel anyway.

I bought a Scorpion DC7 a couple of months ago, havent had a chance to use it but the freespool is amazing. Ive read reports that it casts as far as a Revo Premier(latest version). Im going to put it to the test next year because I have a Revo Elite IB as well. Being the "entry level" DC system Im not surprised that it doesnt cast as far as the more expensive DC systems but Im sure it will outcast 99% of other reels on the market. If you want to get into the DC world this is the cheapest way as far as new reels go.

Thanks for you help Joker. I'll probably stick with the scorpion. I'm afraid I would spoil myself with the Metanium and never want to fish anything else again.

Happy to help, I'm sure you'll enjoy the Scorpion DC!

The Calais DC.

This is incorrect. There is no current US equivalent to the Scorpion DC7. But the body is the the same as the Curado E series only with DC braking instead of SVS.

Believe me you can BACKLASH without being a SPAZ, ask Dwight!

Understood. I thought the question was referring to the Antares, and its equivalentlant.

Thanks. You had to bring that up.
