10" Power Worm

Featured Replies

Just a quick question as I've never used a 10" worm before. Are my 3/0 EWG hooks too small for this worm. Should I look into getting a 4/0 or maybe even a 5/0?

Thanks!

Yes, while you could get away with a 3/0 I would move up to a 5/0. Personally I like a 5/0 Owner J Hook for these worms. But you will get a 100 different answers for which hook to use.

One of my favorite summertime baits. I agree, go with a 5/0. I personally use Owner's Rig'N Hook.

4/0 is the absolute smallest I would go personally. A 5/0 or 6/0 is a good choice.

Just a funny story to with that. When I first started bass fishing, I went to wal mart to pick up some 7" powerworms. Well instead of 4/0 i got size 4. They were a little to small for the purpose  ;D

the smallest you can get away with is 4/0. 5/0 is the right hook for these though.

Untrue....I have fished 10'' worms on as small as 2/0 and it works just fine, true a larger hook is better but it's not set in stone.  All you have to do is rig the hook further doen on the worm with more of the head up on the line.

While that may be true and hookups may be possible, I don't think it's smart to try anything less than a 5/0.

Also, they are best texas rigged correct?

this is true. Caronlina rigged work well also.
