Us Reels? Anyone Try Them

Featured Replies

I was looking around at reels and ran into US Reels. I've never seen them in stores. The level wind design is something i've never seen before, yet makes mechanical sense. Has anyone used a US Reel(baitcaster) and have a opinion on it?

I've handle them but not fished with them. The alleged distance robbing friction of a line guide eye is being overblown IMO as is the importance of casting distance. They seem solid enough but not as refined as more popular offerings. I'd like to hear from someone as well with on the water experience with these.

i used to have a supercaster 1000 pro n sold it to stick with lew's reels. it was great, i think it only backlashed once the year or so i had it, casting distance wasnt all that much further than my speed spool, i was able to match the distance, it was very smooth, it was a bit easier to cast and pitch lighter lures, it handles great, very smooth, i liked it but i like my speed spools a lot more n i dont really think theyre super great or shud have the price tags they do.

Next time I send you some reels I will include the original spinning reel I bought directly from Ray Scott.

Polish the gears, replace bearings or supertune it any way you like. If it turns out good, I would like to

have it back. If not you can keep it, give it away or just throw it away!

When I bought the reel I didn't like it immediately. So, I gave it to my dad for Christmas along with the

Ray Scott rod. My father recently passed away, now the rig is back to me. There is no sentimental value.

If you decide to keep the reel, I'll send you the rod, both at no cost.

I have a friend that has one of the baitcasters. It does cast a mile, but it really shines in cold weather. We bass fish right up until things ice up and he steelhead fishes with the reel during freezing conditions. No line guide to freeze up on you.

My son and I tried a couple 600's and a 700. I wore mine out it a week of hard fishing. OK for a beginner IMHO. Serious fishing kills them to easy.
