Bought a Berkley 50 lb. Digital Scale last night, and it seems to be pretty accurate. I can't wait to test this baby out on a nice'un. That reminds me... at what point do you way a fish? My standard is usually anything that looks to be 5+ pounds.

I can't remember the last time I weighed a fish as I don't do tourneys. I can usually guess within a 1/4 lb since I'm an old fart. I do weigh big cats if I think they're photo-worthy. That starts at 20 pounds.

on a real slow day we guess fish weight and then toss them on the scale. whoever does the worst buys the beer.

Up here in my neck of the woods I consider a four-pounder as my threshold for a "big" fish. So I only weigh bass that I think might be that size, so I rarely weigh anything less than 19".

Don't forget to test it a few times each season by weighing stuff that's already been weighed on a certified scale, such as the ones at your supermarket. These things can be quite accurate, but also can and do go bad for whatever reasons.

I also got a new scale-Its on my back from all of the abuse I get from the guys here like dozer and triton mike- LOL  I actually own that same scale. They did a nice job on it-I use it in tournaments -(DOZER AND MIKE wouldnt know-they never cull)anyway it came in a nice little pouch-some culling rings -again they wouldnyt know- I got it at one of the shows that was up here in NY from one of the Berkley reps-  Berkley did a nice job on the scales - .I would recommend it to anyone without paying $189 for the other ones.

You laugh but I've weighed many a big Crappies while Bass fishing. My big Crappie is a little over two pounds this year,

I get the scale out for fish that start in the 3 to 4 lbs range...only to then find out they are really in the 2-2.5lbs range.

Enjoy the scale,  just dont jam the scales hook through the fishes mouth.   So many people ruin a good fish by doing that and its sad.  It puts to much pressure on the jaw,  and seen some nasty wounds.

Once I got my scale, I started weighing anything that looks to be over 4 pounds (which before I had my scale was 2 pounders lol )

Getting your first scale can be a humbling experience.  But it also makes you much better at your estimates.
