split shot weight

Featured Replies

ive tried split shotting a few times and i didnt feel to good about using the harder lead split shot weights i have. if i didnt crimp them down enough , they would slide up or down on harder casts. and if i crimped them too hard , they would damage the line.

i was curious what everyone uses for this rig. ive seen those weights with the rubber insert , but they have rougher edges that the split shot with the removable things on them. ive never used them but i would imagine you would get all kind of crap hung up on there.

I fish split shots all winter using light, small diameter line.

They will not damage your line if you just clamp them down

tight.

When fishing with removable split shots:

Place the split shot on you line and crimp a little, turn around your line and loop it again on the split shot slot, crimp fully. That way your line won 't slide and won 't get damaged, otherwise the split shot slides ( even if crimped fully ) and causes abrassion to your line.

The Devil knows more from being old than from being the Devil.  ;)

I don't use removable split shots since they have a habbit of snagging more. Crimp your split shot all the way low on your line and move it back and forth wearing it a little, then move it up line to where you want it. Cut the line where you crimped it and wore it slightly. This should help in avoiding any damage that might have occured in the crimping process.

i always just loop the line around the splitshot, that way it wont slide
